About Athletes In Need
Started on a dusty township field in 2019. Today, a national movement for young athletes.

From borrowed boots to a national movement
Athletes In Need was founded in the Khuma and Ikageng communities of the North West by a team of young men and women who grew up in sport — and who saw talent going to waste for the simplest reasons: no kit, no transport, no coach.
We exist to create a youth free from want: enhancing opportunities for under-resourced athletes and developing them in sport, academics and entrepreneurship, so they can become catalysts of change in their own communities.
To bridge the gap between the forgotten and frustrated youth, women and people with disabilities, the working class and government, by creating an infrastructure that enhances placement and offers coaching and mentorship to these marginalised communities.
To create an independent youth, free from want and greed, and to build an enabling environment for them to enter the market and fully realise their potential through unique sport and business development skills programmes.
Four pillars, one mission
Sports & Recreation
Community tournaments, adopted schools, coaching courses and facility programmes across the province.
Education
Bursaries and learnerships with partners like HWSETA and ETDPSETA / NWU Business School.
Entrepreneurship
Business, project-management and digital skills that build real exit pathways.
Social Services
Empowering women, youth and people with disabilities — reigniting hope through participation.
“The vision is to emancipate the dreams of current athletes and those who come after them — so they can be catalysts of change.”
